Summary: Marmaduke is a newspaper comic strip revolving around the Winslow family and their Great Dane, Marmaduke, drawn by Brad Anderson (1924-2015) from 1954 to 2015. Brad Anderson died on August 30, 2015, at the age of 91, leaving the long-term fate of the strip unknown; strips co-drawn with the help of his son, Paul Anderson, continue to be syndicated. Marmaduke didn't begin life as a puppy, but materialized as a full-grown dog, modeled after a Boxer name Bruno. Bruno, a clown and exhibitionist, lived with Anderson's parents in Jamestown, New York. Anderson's family pets have influenced the development of Marmaduke over the years. Many of their dogs were of the "Heinz 57" varieties, but a Lab named Gypsy and two Dalmatians, Duchess and Alice, provided a great deal of "Marmaduke" material along the way. This book was published in 1978, just shy of Marmaduke's 25th anniversary.
